Hair Love is a heartfelt 7-minute animated short film that focuses on the bond between an African-American father, Stephen, and his daughter, Zuri, and their shared experience with her hair. Stephen, used to his wife styling Zuri’s hair, faces a challenge when she’s unavailable right before a big event. With long, textured locks, Zuri’s hair proves to be unpredictable, and Stephen must figure out how to manage it on his own. This story emerged from a desire to address the lack of representation in mainstream animated films and to celebrate “hair love” within the African-American community. By sharing this narrative, the filmmakers hope to inspire both young men and women of color to embrace and celebrate their natural hair.
