Can we use our own hair to make clothes, for example? If it's up to Hungarian Zsofia Kollar, it's the future of the textile industry. In the lab at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen, she is researching how to treat hair and process it into products.
Each year, millions of kilograms of human hair waste end up in landfills or incinerators. But according to a 31-year-old designer based in the Netherlands, that hair could be used to help the fashion industry become more sustainable.

In Europe, 72 million kilograms of human hair waste is thrown away every year. On average, hairdressers produce at least ten large bags of hair as waste every week. This ends up in landfills or incinerators.
