Associate

Human Material Loop is a forward-thinking material science company committed to transforming waste hair into innovative, sustainable materials. We offer a collaborative and growth-oriented environment that values curiosity, problem-solving, and continuous learning.

We are looking for an associate with a background in organic and analytical chemistry to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who wants to work in industry, contribute to meaningful innovation, and learn directly from experienced scientists. You will work closely with Gerard Verzijl, our principal scientist and inventor, who brings decades of hands-on expertise and is committed to mentoring the next generation of thinkers and doers.

Who we’re looking for

– A recent BA or MA graduate in chemistry or a related field
– Someone not planning to pursue a PhD but eager to learn through applied work
– Interested in sustainable chemistry and how science can be used to address global challenges
– Motivated, curious, and excited about developing new materials
– Enjoys solving real-world problems and isn’t afraid to experiment

What you’ll do

– Support the development and optimization of keratin-based materials
– Assist in lab-scale synthesis, testing, and data analysis
– Work alongside a cross-functional team that includes science, engineering, and product development
– Learn industry-standard lab practices and safety procedures
– Contribute ideas and take part in hands-on innovation

Why this role matters

We are not offering a typical internship. This is a learning-by-doing opportunity for someone who wants to invent, build, and grow into a key team member. The right person will have a clear path to a full-time role after the internship.

What We Offer

– A paid associate with valuable hands-on learning
– Direct mentorship from experienced scientists
– A clear path to a full-time role at the end of the internship
– A collaborative and mission-driven work environment
– Opportunities to grow your skills while making a real impact

Join us at Human Material Loop and play a key role in innovating and empowering through chemistry. Please send your CV and a short note about why you’re interested in the role to Zsofia Kollar.
