The story of Samson is told in the Book of Judges in the Old Testament and the Tanakh. An angel appeared to Samson’s parents, telling them that their son would possess superhuman strength, but only as long as his hair was never cut. True to this prophecy, Samson grew up to be an incredibly strong man, his strength tied to his uncut hair. However, he was betrayed by his lover, Delilah, who was sent by the Philistine officials to seduce him. While Samson slept, Delilah ordered a servant to cut his hair, leading to his capture by his Philistine enemies.
