Isabella Mebarak is a Colombian-born, Miami-raised interdisciplinary artist. Her current work explores themes of internet culture, cringe, womanhood, and overconsumption. Isabella creates wall canvas sketches, large sketchbook-esque canvases pinned to her wall that she works on over an indefinite period. These pieces are a space where she pours everything she’s thinking, feeling, and questioning. Hair extensions play a key role in her work, serving as a literal extension of herself. As a Leo sun, her hair holds significant importance, contributing to her confidence and sense of self. Two years ago, she cut off all her hair to challenge her attachment to it but eventually bought extensions to reclaim her “big hair” identity. She later ripped the extensions out and glued them onto the canvas to represent her fluctuating, manic self, and ever-changing phases.
