Sophie, also known as Foosie, is deeply passionate about hair. Initially aspiring to be a hairdresser, she later graduated from an art academy in Amsterdam. At the same time, she began working in a salon, where she sharpened her skills in hair coloring, cutting, and styling. Now, Sophie combines her love for art and hair, approaching everything from a “hair perspective.” She believes hair captures culture, signals how we present ourselves, and is a natural material that demands transformation. Sophie is expanding her expertise by learning wig-making and continuing her journey into the world of hair. In her work, she uses hair as a medium to convey aesthetic and conceptual messages, creating painted extensions, head sculptures, wigs, and accessories. Inspired by trends, history, and nature, her work often explores the connection between human ornaments and animal rituals, like mating displays.
