Zu Kalinowska

Zu Kalinowska is a sculptor and installation artist based in Europe, with a focus on futuristic concepts of human intimacy beyond the physical form. Her work explores the interplay between the “real” and the “fake,” pushing boundaries to create new worlds and possibilities. Kalinowska is particularly intrigued by the cultural and societal significance of hair, which she views as both public and private, a means of communication and control. In her sculptures, she disconnects hair from its traditional human associations, transforming it into a standalone material. By removing the human form, hair becomes an object to question societal values and norms. Kalinowska’s artistic practice encourages reflection on the value judgments we place on hair, its location, and the strong reactions people have when expectations surrounding it are disrupted.
