Fleur Ouwerkerk is an Amsterdam-based mixed media artist whose work is deeply rooted in an obsession with hair. Combining her artistic practice with her work as a fashion stylist, she explores the connection between identity and physical appearance. Her fascination with hair began during art school when she shaved her head and experienced the societal expectations surrounding femininity and beauty. This led her to express her insights through art, culminating in a thesis presented as spoken word. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art from Hogeschool der Kunsten Utrecht in 2011, she has continued to push creative boundaries, crafting wearable art, hair-inspired jewelry, and layered photographic portraits. Through synthetic hair weaving, headpieces, and textile installations, Fleur challenges perceptions of beauty and invites audiences to engage with the symbolic power of hair.
