Julia Bonich

Julia Bonich is a visual artist who explores the intimate relationship between the bedroom and its ritualized composition, romanticizing everyday life and reclaiming the concept of the gynaeceum, the private space traditionally assigned to women. Her work is infused with a baroque Disney aesthetic, reflecting the influence of overconsumption and its associated fantasies. Based in Marseille, she constructs domestic artifacts and fragments of the collective unconscious, elevating the ornamental and anecdotal as symbols of emancipation and historical continuity. Bonich incorporates recycled hair into her creations as a critique of gender stereotyping and the hyper-consumerism perpetuated by Disney, using hair as both an ornament and a motif of liberation to reinterpret objects historically assigned to women and reflect on evolving customs and societal norms.
