Yixin Li

Yixin is a fiber artist and image maker based in Beijing and Shanghai, originally from Beijing, their work engages with themes of time, materiality, and the romanticism of the everyday, seeking to “flirt with reality” by inviting magic into the mundane and exploring the absurdities of the real world with a whimsical touch, in “A LOST UNICORN SIGH, WHERE DID ALL THE MAGIC GO?” Yixin used wig pieces to create a soft sculpture installation, the work began when Yixin bought a magazine with a unicorn blind box and unpacked a purple unicorn named Mandy, inspired by this, Yixin created a trinket tale using materials from a euro store and street finds, including a dismantled bike seat, Yixin explores the melancholia of small commodities, questioning their fate after use and whether magic sparks when their value is lost.
