Attiya Usma is a visual artist from Pakistan. Growing up, she witnessed the challenges faced by her family, particularly through her eldest brother’s battle with schizophrenia. Amidst the chaos, her mother remained a beacon of patience and strength, balancing her career while managing her son’s condition with grace. Her mother’s unwavering resilience profoundly influenced Attiya’s art, particularly her fascination with hair as a recurring motif. The braid, symbolizing her mother’s spirit and stories of sacrifice and survival, remains central in her paintings.
