Estelle Guillaume and Louise Clerc, two young fashion designers from Lyon, explore monstrosity as an aesthetic in their collection Les Monstres, embracing the unconventional, the bizarre, and the subversive. Often seen as an aberration, the monster challenges societal norms and the way people perceive difference. Their work envisions a world between reality and fiction, where fashion and beauty standards are deconstructed. By incorporating unconventional materials such as hair, they challenge perceptions of beauty and discomfort. Their designs play with contrasts, balancing the frightening and the cute, the beautiful and the ugly, the real and the imaginary. Inspired by the Ugly Design movement, they use unexpected textures and forms to reject standardized aesthetics, creating a space where countercultures can celebrate difference and question established norms.
